En tot den top van over jammer-klagen,
Nu ghevelt, En ghesteld, Door de snoode fielen (*1),
Die met macht, Die met kracht, En met wacht,
Om u Heylig, Heylig lichaem krielen,
Daer 'et aen den Cruyce hangt,
Jammerlick gedruckt, geprangt,
Tot troost en heyl van ons' benaeuwde Zielen.

Sy slaen, sy slaen sijn zijde open:
Doen quam 'er Bloedt en Water uytgheloopen,
't Gun de Speer,, (boos geweer (*2)),, deed, deur forsse handen.
't Slimme Rott (*3),, 't gun den Godt,, heeft bespot,
Spoogh noch laster met vergifte tanden,
Op 'et vol rechtveerdigh Lam,
'tGun van boven neder quam
Om deur sen kracht te scheuren onse banden.

Den Herder is gheraeckt om 't leven,
De Schapen zijn oock op de vlucht ghedreven;
't Vee dat vliedt,, als 'et siet,, sijn Herder sterven,
't Raeckt verstrooyt,, en verschooyt (*4),, 't wordt berooyt
Als 'et moet sijn vasten Hoeder derven:
En dan moet 'et daghen langh,
Vol ghevaer, beschroomt en bangh
In droefheydt, sonder een Bewaerder swerven.

About the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
Tune: Oh dream! How you disturb my thoughts.

My salvation, my God! How so beaten?
And to the top of lamentation,
Now felled and placed, by the evil rogue,
Who with power, who with force, and with watching,
Swarm over your holy, holy body,
Where it hung on the cross,
Miserably oppressed, crushed,
To the comfort and blessing of our timid souls.

They struck, they struck open his side:
From which poured blood and water,
The favour of the spear (evil weapon) did this, by strong hands.
The common crowd had despised the favour of God,
Spittle and slander with poisonous teeth,
Upon a fully innocent Lamb,
The favour from above came below
In order to cut apart our bands by his might.

The shepherd was slain,
And the sheep were driven into flight;
The cattle have fled, as it was said, when their herdsman died,
The herd scattered and wandered, becoming indigent,
As it must be when deprived of its guardian:
And then it must for all the long days,
Full of fear, timidity and anxiety
In sadness roam without a guardian.
