13. DE GOD DER GODEN, O DE GOD

Den Vijftigsten Psalm. Een Psalm Asaphs.

De God der Goden, o de God,
(Hem is geen and're naam van nooden)
De God alleen; al 't and're rot,
Van Heydense, en verzierde goden,
Van luchtgedrochten, wier gespook
Omtrent hun temp'len en altaren
Zich bezig houd, zijn niet dan rook;

Maar staat alleen aan God verbonden;
Schend iemand dien, dat's God geschonden.

13. OUDAAN: PSALM 50

The Fiftieth Psalm: A Psalm of Asaph.

The God of gods, oh the God,
(To him is no other name needful)
The God alone, all the other squad,
Of the heathens, and decorated gods,
Of airborne ghosts
Around their temples and altars
They use wood, they are nothing but smoke;
So they are served, as if they never existed,
They are altogether nothing but foolishness,
So nameless, they are false of name.

The God of heaven, who is true
Call him God of gods,
For he is the King, Prince and Judge,
And whom he places in such a state,
He has given the name of gods,
Has imprinted a majesty,
Who, exalted above the common,
Above them no other is known,
But exist only bound to God;
If anyone violates them, they have violated God.
