Engelse tekst
[21] TMEISKIN WAS JONCK

't Meisje was jong, jong, jong,
Goed figuur en niet te groot,
Ik snelde af op haar, met een sprong;
Ik kuste haar op haar rode mond.
'Mijn schat, kom hier toch vaker.'
'Ei ridder,' zei ze, 'edel genoot,
Je liefde wordt nog eens mijn dood.'

't Meisje was jong, jong, jong,
Rust noch duur en wangen rood.
Onmogelijk dat ik mij bedwong;
Al snel ontstond 'n vurig verbond.
'Mijn schat, ik brand, ik blaker.'
'Ei ridder,' zei ze, 'kom in mijn schoot
En leer me al wat God verbood.'

't Meisje was jong, jong, jong,
Snel verzuurd, o avondrood.
Uit met het minnelied dat ik zong;
Bevroren haar ooit zo warme mond.
'Ik voel het koude laken.'
'Ei ridder,' zei ze, 'mijn lotgenoot,
Je trouweloosheid wordt mijn dood.'

Eerste strofe gebaseerd op de tekst bij Obrechts liedeken in het Chansonnier Lauwerijn van Watervliet (ca 1505-1506): Tmeiskin was jonck, jonck, jonck/ Wel van passe, niet te groet. etc.
[21] THE GIRL WAS YOUNG

The girl was young, young, young,
Good figure and not too big,
I hurried after her with a gallop;
I kissed her on her red mouth.
'My dear, you should come around more often.'
'Ay knight,' she said, 'Noble sir,
Your love will be the death of me.'

The girl was young, young, young,
Restless and impatient, with red cheeks.
I could not have held back;
A passionate bond rose quickly.
'My dear, I burn, I faint.'
'Ay knight,' she said, 'come on my lap
And teach me all that God's forbidden.'

The girl was young, young, young,
Quickly soured, o sunset red.
Out with that love-song that I sang;
Her once-warm mouth now frozen.
'I feel the cold bedsheets'.
'Ay knight,' she said, 'my mate in fate,
Your faithlessness will be the death of me.'

The first stanza is based on the text given with Obrecht's song in the Songbook of Lawrence of Watervliet (c. 1505-1506): Tmeiskin was jonck, jonck, jonck/ Wel van passe, niet te groet. etc.
